SSL is a secured connection between the browser and the web server, nowadays, becomes important both for security or SEO. This post will guide you that switching to https is easy in WordPress.
Check if the SSL is installed
To check if your SSL installed properly, you can check by adding https:// before your domain name; https://pupungbp.com if SSL installed, it will direct you to the site, if not, a warning will appear. Please contact your Webhosting provider to get a free certificate installed.
Install Plugin
This is my favorite plugin to activate SSL, Really Simple SSL. Plugins > Add New, type “SSL” on the search form and the result will appear. Click Install then Activate it.
You will see a notification right after you activated it.
Activate Redirect to always access https
Go to settings > SSL, click on the Settings tab, enable the 301 .htaccess to redirect, then click Save.
Mixed Content Issue
You might have an issue with mixed content, if you switched to https, all resources inside your page must be linked using https also. This process could be a little techy and might need help from a web developer.
Fix Using a Plugin
There are few plugins that can help you with the mixed content issue. The plugin we’ve just installed can also help to fix this issue. In the plugin settings, you will see an option to fix mixed content, just activate it and check the homepage.
This method can only fix mixed content for WordPress generated resources, that used in plugins or themes. For hardcoded mixed content, you must trace and edit it your self right in the code.
Check and Debug the Issue
If you are using Google Chrome, you can use “inspect” to check what elements are causing the mixed content issue. Right-click, and select Inspect or using press Ctrl + Shift + I. You will see assets that require to fix and change it to https manually, these assets could be hardcoded within posts, CSS, or Theme Files.
